Loop Interiors Intl and Sage Places have recently completed a new hub workspace for Sage in Barcelona - consolidating three existing Sage sites in Catalonia.
Located in the rapidly developing 22@ tech district and split over one and a half floors of new development A111, the site presents long linear floorplates benefitting from 360 views and abundant natural daylight. A roof terrace (spectacular views inevitable) provides excellent colleague space in addition to the on floor sheltered terrace areas.
The layout is driven by human behaviour, initially from locating the café area facing eastwards to enable morning coffees basking in golden hour sunlight. Arrival areas sweep into the large social café, punctuated by a mix of touchdown spaces to enable visitors and colleagues alike to perch and undertake work, chat, break, share. A space for serendipitous moments.
Adjacent to arrival is a meeting village, a backlit planted pavilion housing a mix of typologies - lounge to flex to boardroom. Simple, intuitive and easy to use technology support all meeting functionality. Views to iconic landmarks are celebrated and framed, alongside brand moments which punctate circulation spaces to provide interest and storytelling opportunity.
Back to the café – the exposed concrete soffit and services maximise volume, facilitating sweeping illuminated suspended mesh planters. At a lower level curved tiled spike-lit planters provide definition to dining tables, whilst softer banquettes (again heavily planted) frame the elevation toward the café island. This itself is a large monolithic coffee-making beast, the social focal point within this generous multi-use space.
Dramatically lit arched booths align the journey from café to workspace, clad in textural warm cork tiles comfortably enclosing these cave-like scoops. Integrated with the end of the café, a portal to the colleague space is framed by timber display shelving, housing locally curated objects. Curved partitioning softens this view, a tool used throughout the project to blend and maintain the flow from space to space.
Upon turning this corner the vista of the whole remaining space opens up. Sight lines are maintained to the southern terrace and are punctuated by architecturally inserted support pods, housing collaborative opportunities - Solve, Pod, Chat, Booth, Box, Meet.
In between these zones sit/stand workstation clusters and a refresh bar complete the mix of work settings, culminating in a quieter zone towards the far end of the floor plate.
Overall, a years work from inception to completion has resulted in a workspace to thrive, share, inspire and collaborate. Thanks to Sage, and the wider team also: Cushman Wakefield, Ercer, MADD Studio, Artwork Solutions, Tsunami, Yorktel, Convirgint,
